My Friend is pregnant!

My Friend (you know who you are!) just found out she is pregnant with her first child. I am so excited! I told her I would post some tips from my own experiences of pregnancy.

I had really bad morning sickness. Really bad. So bad, in fact, it was ALL DAY AND NIGHT sickness. I lost weight with my pregnancies, and only gained after my seventh month. I tried medication, it didn't work. So, I coped with the fact that I would get sick at any time of day, no matter where I was. I hope you find these tips helpful if you have the same problem.

1. Stay hydrated. Drink whatever you can, but only little sips throughout the day. Little caffeine, no carbonation. An old trick from our grandmothers time was to drink flat coca cola classic (not diet). I found out that the local pharmacy sells cola syrup to drink as a nausea treatment.

2. Always have an empty fast food cup with a lid on hand in the car. I can't tell you how many times I would get sick in the car. I couldn't stop the car and run with two or three children into a restroom, so I would simply get sick in the cup, then put the lid on the cup and throw it away at our next stop. I know its gross, but I am telling you, this is a life saver! And, go ahead and have a change of clothes in the car. Just in case.

3. Always have something in your tummy. Never get to the point where you are hungry. Your blood sugar tanks, then you feel sick and can't eat. Its a vicious cycle. Have small healthy, high protein snacks throughout the day. My favorite was cheese, crackers, deli meat and an apple. A PB&J sandwich is also good. The trick is to eat a snack that contains protein that keeps you feeling full and a simple sugar that gives you an immediate boost. I always ate protein at night because in the morning I needed to be able to function!

4. Eat what looks good. I was a vegetarian when I became pregnant with Dear Daughter #1. Then I started craving Roast beef sandwiches from Arby's! I hadn't had one in years! But, I found out that I was iron deficient, and my body was craving the iron from the red meat. One pregnancy it was soft tacos from Taco Bell. Another it was BLT salads from Wendy's. Just eat what looks good, its hard enough to keep things down.

Thats all for now! I'll post more stuff tomorrow! I LOVE you Friend! Congrats!
